29.03.2022 - 31.03.2022
Oerlikon HRSflow at Plastics Technology Expo 2022

From March 29 to 31, visit us at Booth 217

On the occasion of PTXPO, we will showcase our new hot runner line for small precision parts. Other significant applications from our FLEXflow Evo technology and HRSCool Evo cylinder will be availible to view during the event.

The exhibition will be held from 29 to 31 March, 2022 in Rosemont, IL (USA)

High Performance Systems for Precision Parts

Fast cycle time, high production volume and quick colour change are all combined with an excellent finish of the molded components. The innovative and patented hot runner system line has many benefits. Mainly suitable for engineering plastics, it is a compact solution for a reduced pitch.

Depending on the part, it can be equipped with:

  • Sa nozzles
  • Tp nozzles
  • Sp nozzles

Designed for the injection molding of technical and electronic components, the Sa Series is a screwed-in hot runner system which offers a compact solution to produce automotive parts such as exterior emblems, small interior switches, sound system knobs or tiny components in air-conditioning systems. At the other end of the scale, the Tp and Sp series are face-to-face products with different inner bore sizes. These are the ideal solutions for multi-cavity applications (up to 30 g). Beyond the injection molding of technical and electronic components, Tp and Sp nozzle series are also suitable for houseware, medical, consumer goods and packaging applications.

Because of extensive laboratory research, there is an improved temperature profile along the entire nozzle and optimal sealing. In addition, modifications to the channel geometry allow for fast colour changes. We will showcase various applications of our line for reduced pitch at the show.

FLEXflow Evo Ensures Successful Family Mold Operations

Compared to hydraulic or pneumatic sequential injection systems, the FLEXflow Evo servo-driven valve gate technology enables precise control of the stroke and force of each needle during the mold-filling process. This innovation overcomes previous limitations by filling all cavities simultaneously without the risk of overfilling, underfilling or flash formation, even with large weight differences between individual parts. The combination of family mold and FLEXflow Evo technology decreases the production costs of the molded parts by up to 30%, reduces the number of molds required and increases plant utilization. Oerlikon HRSflow will showcase two significant applications using FLEXFlow Evo Technology for family mold operations.

  • Door Mold for Automotive Interior: presents a clean surface without pressure lines or flow marks, even though parts differ considerably from one another in terms of their geometry.
  • Injection-Molded Radiator Grill: an automotive part without joint lines.

HRScool Evo: An Innovative Solution for Cylinders

HRScool Evo is an innovative solution for cylinders, where water lines are not required. Designed with Thermal Insulation Optimization, no active cooling is required for common automotive applications. A telescopic cover made with highly conductive material is placed between the cylinder and plate, creating a thermal bridge with the back plate to ease the heat dissipation. Due to improved geometry of components, HRScool Evo broadens the range of applications where active cooling can be avoided, in comparison to the previous system, HRScool.

HRScool Evo presents savings in general maintenance costs because there is no liquid cooling, and a reduction of essential components for operation. The connection of cooling circuits is equally eliminated, along with issues of clogged cooling circuits or the degradation of hydraulic fluids. The effort required to install and remove this uncooled system is also reduced. Designed with a special lock, the needles can remain in the nozzle during mounting and dismantling. The sophisticated insulation concept, which ensures uniform temperature distribution along the entire hot runner system, supports the production of components with ease.

Mechanical Stroke Regulator for Hydraulic-Driven Valve Gate Systems

We have developed a Mechanical Stroke Regulator (MSR) for hydraulic-driven valve gate systems. The technology simplifies the individual pre-set process for the opening positions of pins in hot runner systems. With a graduate scale adjusting screw, the user specifies the individual oil volume, which the valve gate system then uses to bring the needles into the intended positions. In this way, the pressure drop for each nozzle can be set independently, and the pressure distribution during the packaging phase can be controlled.

We supply the MSR ready-to-install on all existing hydraulic cylinder series equipped with electrovalves. Installation can be limited to individual nozzles of a system to save costs. The installation process takes around 10 minutes and can be done without dismantling the mold. Modifications to the existing hot runner cut out are not required. Combined with our FLEXspeed system, the speed of the pin can also be adjusted.
