Polycarbonate is set to revolutionize the car of tomorrow with INglass molds

INGLSS, S.r.l, Italy is  specialized since 1987 in the design and construction of   rotative multicolor and multi component molds for automotive lighting.

In 2001, based on the expertise developed in this field, HRS flow division  was created for the production of hot runner system  for the plastics industry in Automotive, Houseware, Electronic and white good applications.

Moreover, the  close attention to customer requirements has led  the Company to a new approach which looks to interface with the customer throughout the entire production process, starting from the initial development phase. Preliminary product analysis and the choice of the most suitable production technology and equipment allows customers to reduce cycle time, and minimize any production defects or scrap resulting from the injection process.

Among the different technologies Inglass can provide, strong resources have been devoted to the development of injection compression molding technology for the production of large-scale transparent polycarbonate surfaces as an alternative to glass products for the automobile industry (Plastic Glazing).

Among its main advantages

More innovative design solutions: Glazing technology makes it possible to develop more complex aerodynamic shapes than could be achieved using glass; shapes that integrate well with the vehicle bodywork.

Increased passenger safety: Polycarbonate has much greater elasticity than glass and, as a result, is more shock-proof with greater resistance to collision. This drastically reduces serious injuries and death in automobile accidents such as when the vehicle overturns.

40% reduction in overall vehicle weight: In line with the growing demand for environmentally-friendly means of transport, this polymer allows vehicle weight to be drastically reduced. This consequently results in  significant savings in fuel consumption and a reduction in exhaust and pollutant emissions.

Further, Since 2007, INglass-HRSflow has been able to offer customers a service aimed at optimising mold cooling time by means of mold cooling analysis and, if required, the production of tailor-made inserts using SLM - Selective Laser Melting (laser-melted metal powder) technology to reduce cycle time.

INglass-HRSflow was the first company worldwide to develop an integrated system comprising mold, hot runner system and process control unit capable of producing large fault-free polycarbonate molded surfaces. For the process control Inglass has released on the market M.O.M . - Molding Optimization Manager. M.O.M. is a multifunction control units for thermal regulation able to perform among its primary functions, the thermal/energy check of hot channels and the related thermal regulation. Moreover,In the event of leakage, automatically shuts down the injection machine.

To sum up, a process and method that focuses on guaranteeing a matchless quality and aesthetic finish for the finished part.
